This Privacy Policy describes how Zinger Networks (zinger.network) collects, uses, and protects your personal information. As part of a federated network, your data may be shared with other trusted nodes in the Zing ecosystem.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

• Username and display name
• Email address (stored locally, not federated)
• Password (encrypted and never shared)
• Profile information (bio, avatar, header image)
• Account creation date and settings

Content You Create

• Posts (zings) and their metadata
• Replies, likes, and rezings
• Media uploads (images, GIFs)
• Poll responses
• Direct messages (stored encrypted)

Usage Information

• IP address and device information
• Browser type and language preferences
• Access times and pages viewed
• Referring websites

2. How We Use Your Information

• Service Operation: To provide and maintain the Zinger Networks service
• Federation: To share your public content with other trusted Zing nodes
• Communication: To send you important service notifications
• Security: To detect and prevent abuse, spam, and security threats
• Improvement: To analyze usage patterns and improve the service

3. Data Storage & Federation

Local Storage

Your account data and private information are stored on zinger.network servers operated by this node's administrator. This includes:

• Email address (never shared)
• Encrypted password
• Private messages
• Account settings and preferences

Federated Storage

When you post publicly, your content is federated to other trusted Zing nodes:

• Public posts and their metadata
• Profile information (username, bio, avatar)
• Public interactions (likes, rezings, replies)
• Follower/following relationships

Important: Each federated node independently stores copies of this data. Deletion requests are sent to all known nodes, but we cannot guarantee immediate or complete removal from all federated nodes.

4. Data Sharing

With Other Nodes

Zinger Networks federates with trusted nodes in the Zing network. Your public content is automatically shared with:

• Nodes that your followers are registered on
• Nodes where users interact with your content
• Nodes explicitly trusted by Zinger Networks

Third Parties

We do not sell your data to third parties. We may share data only:

• When required by law or legal process
• To protect the rights and safety of our users
• With your explicit consent

5. Data Retention

Active Accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account is active.

Deleted Accounts: When you delete your account:

• Local data is deleted within 30 days
• Deletion requests are sent to all federated nodes
• Some anonymized data may be retained for analytics
• Legal or security-related data may be retained longer

Federation Note: We cannot control how quickly other nodes process deletion requests. Some federated copies may persist on other nodes beyond our control.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your data
• Rectification: Correct inaccurate data
• Deletion: Delete your account and data
• Export: Download your data in a portable format
• Restriction: Limit how we process your data
• Objection: Object to certain data processing activities

8. Children's Privacy

Zinger Networks is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. International Data Transfers

Zinger Networks operates from zinger.network. Due to the federated nature of the network, your public data may be transferred to and stored on servers in different countries operated by other node administrators. Each node may be subject to different privacy laws.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via:
